明朝年间，当朝皇帝忽然病重昏迷，朝廷大乱，此时恰逢黑齿国国王黑泥来访，十八太子龙儿（李立饰演）只得代父设宴款待。席间，黑泥自夸黑齿国国力强盛，拥有武神、诗神、食神、棋神四大高手，龙儿暗自好笑，因为这四项正是正是汉人的强项，于是双方当即决定一比高下，却不料黑泥早已买通明国四大高手，龙儿方知中了圈套，情急之下，龙儿与黑泥签下契约：三月之后两国比赛，明国若输则割地赔款。。Inspired by W.G. Sebald’s book and based on WWII archive footage, the film puts forward the question: is it morally acceptable to use civilian population as a means of war? Is it possible to justify mass destruction for the sake of higher “moral” ideals? The question remains as relevant today, as it was 80 years ago, and its urgency is tragically manifested in the current event...。
