道光十九年六月三日，林则徐在虎门海滩指挥销烟，百姓拍手称快。英国回国商人拿此事大做文章，装备精良的英军从珠江口直下塘沽，对华宣战。软弱无能的道光不派兵应战，反把一切怪罪到林则徐头上将他撤职，又派直隶总督琦善（林连昆）为钦差大臣前去与英方讲和，酿成历史悲剧。。
