The...。五六十年代曾流行过把风光片包装成故事片的手法，本片就是一个例子。通过一个小孩躲藏在爷爷的气球里遨游欧洲，尽情享受俯瞰艾菲尔铁塔、勃朗峰等名胜，以及猎鹿等壮观的场景。里面还有一个插科打诨的机械师，提供喜剧调料。。故事发生在南诏王阁罗凤重病，其孙异牟寻准备登基为王时期，阁罗凤之子凤伽异早逝，其子异牟寻聪慧能干，善于抚慰百姓，但因异牟寻年纪尚轻，内有众多大臣不愿归顺于他。只有阁罗凤之前俘虏的郑回一直感恩阁罗凤不杀之恩还予以重用，对异牟寻也处处关心照顾。阁罗凤临死前立南诏德化碑，表明叛唐出于不得已，愿与唐世代友好，异牟寻也早有此意，但是南诏当时还有很多大臣反对归顺大唐，两种主张、两派势力早已明争暗斗，故事就是在这样的背景下诞生的，势单力薄的南诏想归顺大唐，将归顺之意秘密送达并得到大唐的支持，一路上凶多吉少，杀机四伏······。
